Before using
Although you can edit a shopping list in maxShopper, it’s best to prepare one on a
PC and then download it using ActiveSync to the My Documents folder on your Smart
phone. Lists can be prepared either directly using an editor like notepad or by using
Shihtzusoft’s free dataEdit utility that runs on a PC.
Starting
To start maxShopper, click on the icon in the Start menu. By default maxShopperQ
loads an initial shopping list file, Shopper.txt. The initial screen is shown below. Once
you have started maxShopper, you will want to load your custom shopping list (see
below).
Screen organization
The screen displays 4 lines of a shopping list at one time; these are the alternating
blue/green lines. Each line has a check box, a description field and a price field.
Below the list display are three status lines. The first line shows how many items are
in the list, how many have been place in your shopping cart (or bag) and what the
current cost is, including the total cost expected. The next 2 lines are typically the
date and the name of the store, and they are the first two lines of the shopping list
file.
Changing the display/checking off a list item
To scroll through the list use the scroll bar. To check/uncheck an item, tap the check
box.
Using the buttons
The Open button allows you to open and display any shopping list file that is in the
PDA (all directories). Likewise Save allows you to save the current shopping
list either under the same name or a new name. Any information that has been
changed in the list (description, cost & checked status) will also be saved.
Tap the Sort button to sort the shopping list alphabetically.
Tapping the Setup button brings up the following screen:
In this case we are changing “Pork chops” to another item name (for example,” Lamb
chops”—or perhaps ” carrots” for you vegetarians). If you type more than 20
characters or so, the description may wrap in the field, so keep the description brief.
The Line 1 info and Line 2 info edit boxes hold the information in the first two lines of
the shopping list file. By default these are the date and shopping location
respectively. The third item is the number of items in the list. If you increase the
number of items then you will have new items added to the end of the list.
Changing a list item.
You can edit the text and/or the price information of a list item by first tapping the
keyboard screen and then tapping in the list item field (description or price as shown
below):
Using the Database
Another way to change an item description is to access it from the database; The
screen setup is as shown below:
The data base is organized a two-level tree (three-level if you include the root).
Product categories (for example “Candy” are the 1st level and initially have a “+”
sign in front of their name. If you tap at the “+” sign, it changes to a “-“, and then
you see the item level part of the tree (for example “Hershey’s kisses”). If you tap
on an item it is highlighted, and its information (price per unit and units are
displayed below. You can change the number of units of a particular item you want
by using the spinner control (the up/down arrow buttons next to the quantity
display).
If you tap the ok button in the upper right of the display, it closes and the item
information replaces the information at the selected list position in the list display.
You can load a new database file by tapping the Open Database button.
